What should Wexford’s Main Street become, and who needs to take responsibility for making it happen?
Across Ireland and beyond, traditional town centres are under enormous pressure. Online shopping, changing consumer habits, vacant buildings, rising costs and the loss of independent businesses are reshaping our main streets. But decline is not inevitable. Could culture and events, independent businesses, cafés, bookshops, markets, community spaces, informal “third places” and new uses for vacant buildings help reinvent Wexford town centre? Can we create a Main Street that is about more than simply buying things—somewhere people want to meet, spend time and return to?
